Woman Writes Touching Obituary For Her Golden Retriever

Sallie Hammett lost her best friend – a golden retriever named Charlie – on September 13 and found a wonderful way to cope with the grief.

“I wrote my dog an obituary because of course I did. He was the best boy.”

Hammett posted the obituary to Twitter where it’s touched the hearts of many dog owners who recently lost their companions.

“Reading your heartfelt tribute to Charlie has me in tears,” Lynn replied. “My husband found our Whip as a pup, in a box. Whip loved everyone and spent nearly 20 years as my husband’s constant companion. I know he was part of the welcoming committee as your Charlie stepped off the Rainbow Bridge.”

“I’m so sorry for your loss. I know it is devastating. It’s been almost 3 months for me now and I still cry A LOT. That is why your story was so touching,” Brittany commented.

The responses have been a great comfort for Hammett, too.

“It’s been a distraction because I have a new dog picture to look at every two minutes, which was an unrealized dream of mine,” she told TODAY. “It’s been so overwhelming but heartwarming, too. Overwhelming in a great way, because it’s made me feel like my grief is shared, and it’s just so cool that so many people are getting to know Charlie.”
